What were you taught in school about LGBT people and history? Our guess is nothing!
That’s why Cara-Friend is delighted to announce that the National LGBT History Festival, ‘Outing the Past’, is coming to Northern Ireland for the first time. Belfast will host a hub of the festival which will bring a day of paper presentations to the city from academics, activists and amateur historians, reflecting on Northern Ireland’s rich LGBT history. There will also be pop up events around the city to engage as many members of the public as possible.
‘Outing the Past’ will take place over the weekend of February 16th-18th across the city of Belfast. Friday, February 16th will see a launch with a keynote speaker, yet to be announced. A conference with paper presentations, which will be open to all, will take place on Saturday, February 17th. Other events including exhibitions and walking tours will take place over the weekend.
The full programme of events will be announced in December 2017.
Cara-Friend and the National LGBT History Festival organisers are currently inviting applications for presentations to be made at the conference on Saturday, February 17th. There are no restrictions on who can apply to present at the conference – the only criterion is that the material presented is historical and properly researched. It can be sociological, political, or personal.
